I can’t stress how important this rudiment is when it comes to studying drums. It’s the first rudiment that comes along when students have to start applying the double stroke roll at a fast tempo. It is essentially a short burst of doubles and when you get it happening, you open the door for other roll rudiments and some tasty fills.

PS: and I know it might seem easier to just use singles but trust me, when the 5-stroke roll is part of your bag of tricks, double strokes will become a more essential part of your playing!
